We are looking for a dynamic Head of Subscription Trading to lead and scale the subscription program at Pets at Home. Subscriptions are a growing and integral part of our business, and we aim to take them from their early stages to full maturity. This pivotal role, while part of the Ecommerce team, extends beyond just online channels, as you'll focus on embedding subscriptions across our entire omnichannel business.

 

With access to vast amounts of customer data, you'll use both commercial and customer insights to define the value proposition, develop the go-to-market strategy, and tailor approaches for different customer segments.

 

As Head of Subscription Trading, you’ll own the subscriptions P&L and work cross-functionally to drive key strategic initiatives focused on growth and retention. You'll leverage your expertise in subscriptions to align stakeholders and deliver critical projects. You’ll have a keen focus on KPIs, optimizing program performance, and striving for operational excellence, while continually exploring innovative ways to increase growth, retention, customer lifetime value (CLV), and profitability. You’ll also ensure that our subscription offering is well-positioned in the market, staying relevant and competitive.

 

This is a hybrid role, with 2-3 days per week at our Handforth office. Additional office days or travel to third-party locations may be required as needed.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Using commercial and customer insights define the value proposition and goto-market strategy, approach to different customer segments.
  • Influence the marketing budget, working closely with relevant stakeholders to market to key segments and drive aggressive growth.
  • Ensure alignment with key stakeholders across retail, commercial and ecommerce to bring the goto-market strategy to life, utilising all assets across the business.
  • Oversee the operational KPI’s, including funnel flow through and drivers of churn and identify gaps and opportunities to ensure operational excellence.
  • Interpret regular reports comparing the actual sales versus the budgeted sales, follow up on the daily sales achievements and work with peers to suggest corrective actions in case the sales are below the budget.
  • Own the integrated inlife activities both commercial and customer service related to provide existing customers with best in-class retention processes and maximise retention performance both from a value and volume perspectives.
  • Identify trading initiative and functionality opportunities to drive CLV.
  • Ensure continuous monitoring of competitor products, sales and marketing activities.
  • Responsible for the achievement of the departments KPIs, providing regular updates on performance.
  • Contribute to business planning process, actively shaping and driving the future of the subscriptions.
  • Drive the subscription strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment to the overall business strategy and goals.            
  • Manage small team, building a team of functional experts and ‘team players’, who are effective at collaborating in a matrix style organisation.

 

Experience, Knowledge & Expertise – Essential:

  • 10+ years of experience in sales, marketing, or proposition roles.
  • Strong background in managing subscription programs or working within a subscriptiondriven business.
  • Experience with P&L management and accountability.
  • Proven track record in trading, financial modeling, and P&L optimization.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Dynamic leadership experience in fastpaced environments.
  • Strategic thinker with a deep understanding of commercial and customer KPIs.
