We are now seeking an experienced Buyer to join our dynamic Food Trading team.
About the Role
As a Buyer, you’ll work in our Food Trading team and have full responsibility for sales and margin (cash and %) targets for your category of responsibility as laid out in the Business Plan.
You will take responsibility for negotiating and agreeing annual food supplier trading terms as well as developing and implementing a customer facing range strategy that both incorporates current market trends and differentiates Pets at Home from its competitors in the pet food space.
This is a challenging role, you’ll be working at pace and ensuring that all voices are listened to and considered. You’ll need to be able to balance the priorities of both your stakeholders and suppliers.
But you’ll be working within a supportive team and will get a unique insight into how things work across functions. It’s an exciting opportunity that will really empower you.
We can offer hybrid working from our Support Office in Handforth (Cheshire) and you'll be required to work three days per week in the office.
Key responsibilities will include;
- Creating and implementing effective promotional programmes
- The development and introduction of exciting and innovative new products, including own brand
- Managing branded ranges
- Taking a proactive position in working closely with our supply and logistics teams to ensure efficient management of our stock file
- Developing effective and productive working relationships with cross functional teams such as supply, merchandising and marketing
- Actively engaging and supporting our retail store teams to resolve issues and improve sales
- Working with both domestic and global suppliers to develop ranges to drive sales and profit growth
- Setting our pricing strategy and monitoring retail price movements in the market so that you can react accordingly
- Working closely with our CRM Loyalty team to gain insights and make customer driven decisions to help drive category growth
- Working alongside the Online Trading team to help create a seamless customer experience across all of our retail channels
About You
You’ll have experience of working in a Buying role within a FMCG environment and you’ll be able to demonstrate your knowledge of developing own brand ranges, as well as managing branded ranges.
You will have a passion for product, balanced with understanding the need for commercial acumen.
The role would suit someone who has a blend of both digital and store experience and wants to work as part of a team.
Key experience/skills includes;
- Experience and a proven record of negotiating annual supplier trading terms that help maximise supplier income
- The ability to communicate effectively at all levels within and outside the organisation, as well as having excellent negotiating skills and a keen attention to detail
- The ability to learn from others and engage help from across the business
