About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Scientist to join our existing Data Science team, to help deliver transformational projects centred around predictive modelling, optimisation, and marketing personalisation.

This is a ‘hybrid’ role, so involves working two days per week from our Support Office in Handforth (Cheshire).

Key Responsibilities - What you'll be doing in the role

  • Provide thought-provoking analytics from a large range of internal and external data sources to inform and guide strategic debate at all levels within our business. This will be across all functions in the Pets at Home Group.
  • Be able to deliver evidence-based stories in a compelling way that enables stakeholders to take action.
  • Be a domain expert and a technical authority within the Advanced Analytics function. Maintain a commercial mindset and identify opportunities that are mutually beneficial for our businesses and their customers.
  • Identify process and data quality improvements and partner with other areas of the Petcare Analytics Group to continually improve our business and VIP loyalty scheme data.
  • Proactively feedback to the business analysis and data products that lead to improved understanding and operational efficiencies. Curate a knowledge bank that can assist other business functions.
  • Share knowledge, technical best practice, and outcomes to develop more junior members of the Data Science Team and other teams we partner with. Take a leading role in the technical development of others.

About You - What you'll bring to the role

Ideally bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in a STEM subject or other numerate discipline.

Key Experience:

  • 4 years+ of proven ability to apply Data Science techniques to create commercial value, ideally within a consumer-centric business.
  • Strong SQL skills and extensive experience of working with large-scale data warehouses. Experience of analytical programming languages such as R/ Python/ Scala essential.
  • Demonstrable experience with core data science methods such as classification, regression, time series forecasting, clustering, nearest neighbour, neural networks, embeddings, dimensionality reduction and anomaly detection.
  • Experience within ML Ops tools and techniques, or experience managing ML workflows and deployments in complex production environments.
  • Highly numerate with a solid understanding of statistics and the ability to translate complex analysis to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing end-to-end data science projects, from understanding business needs, combining relevant data sources, and building solutions, to creating commercial success through measurable deployment.

Desirable:

  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems and an understanding of geospatial analytics methods.
  • Experience with attribution modelling within a marketing context.
  • Experience with large-scale recommendation and consumer personalisation engines.
