Location: The role is normally based in the Swindon office, with travel to suppliers.  The role is work from home during the COVID pandemic.

About the Vet Group Supplier Relations team

The Vet Group Supplier Relations team is responsible for c. £80m of products and services, on behalf of our partners, for use in Pets at Home Vet Group practices. Our practices depend on these supplies to deliver an outstanding service to clients and patients, so clinical performance and security of supply are critical considerations, alongside purchase price, profitability and any other value that can be delivered by suppliers through deepening the strength of the relationship (e.g. training, and driving efficiencies in practice and the Support Office).

About the role

Reporting into the Vet Group Chief Operating Officer, the Head of Supplier Relations has overall accountability in creating, implementing and managing supplier relationships to drive profitability in practices and Support Office, across pharmaceuticals, equipment and veterinary services.

Managing a small team of direct reports, the role will work with a range of key stakeholders across Clinical, Legal, Marketing, Operations, Finance and Partners & Partner Joint Venture Council.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Work with direct reports to establish new supplier agreements that deliver >£1m benefit to practice profitability each year.
  • Work with direct reports to ensure existing suppliers deliver required service levels.
  • Define new strategies to create value with suppliers. Key activities will include reviewing category performance, actively developing recommended product lists, creating annual joint business plans and unlocking new >£1m potential Trade Marketing income stream through multiple channels.
  • Develop & nurture long-term strategic relationships with our suppliers to deliver broad value to our JVPs and their clients
  • Lead a team who provide exceptional service to our JVPs.

About your experience

This role would suit a commercial leader with highly developed relationship management capability, who can offer a proven track record within the veterinary sector. Experience within Category Management, Joint Business Planning, Trade Marketing and Buying is preferred, alongside experience of contract negotiation and development for products and/or services. Your numerical skills, broad commercial understanding and results delivery approach will all contribute to your success within this role.

You will thrive on working collaboratively across a broad range of functions and stakeholders, whilst motivating and inspiring your team.  You will offer outstanding organisation skills and an ability to prioritise workload to meet demands.
