To achieve this, we have built an internal analytics capability, the Petcare Analytics Group, that creates value by helping our business to make better decisions that improve pet welfare, enable a brilliant customer experience and optimise the working practices of our colleagues and partners.
Since the appointment of the Chief Data Officer to the Executive team, we have outlined a strategy to establish “Pet Care Analytics for All” and analytics have become the lifeblood of our Pet Care ambitions across the Group. To date, or analytics teams have enabled the business to:
- Get more impactful, relevant and timely insight out to colleagues and partners
- Increase the velocity and effectiveness of our VIP activity and customer experience
- Leverage advanced analytics to optimise our supply chain, customer spend, workload, colleague rotas, pricing and profitability
About the role
As part of our expansion of the Petcare Analytics Group, we are looking for two Data Engineers to join our existing Data Engineering Team.
As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that new data is ingested from a variety of sources in a reliable and consistent manner that is usable in our Data Warehouse and operational flows.
You will create data pipelines, test transformations to ensure data quality is high and also ensure that change is managed & delivered to environments in a secure, efficient and reliable manner.
We currently use airflow and big query in a primarily batch processing ingestion process. We will be looking to move to a tool such as Fivetran in the near future. We will also be expanding streaming data sources.
We will also be introducing dbt (or data build tool) to improve our data testing and ensure that we are able to construct data catalogue and data lineage.
Further key responsibilities will include;
- Developing, maintaining and improving cloud data platform
- Maintaining relevant technical documentation
- Delivering software that is scalable, fault tolerant, highly available and tested
- Conducting code reviews, pair programming and knowledge sharing sessions
- Driving automation within CICD, infrastructure, management and configuration
- Ensuring that data is of the highest quality and legality coming into and going out of the cloud data platform
About your experience
You will have worked in a data engineering role and hold strong development skills (ELT, ETL, batch, streaming, etc.) with experience of working with a cloud based analytical platform.
Your understanding of the end-to-end deployment process of data products (Jenkins, Spinnaker, TeamCity) will be strong and you will have hands on experience with ingesting and processing streaming data.
Further key experience includes;
- Experience with data modelling and structures
- Experience with data laking and warehousing tools & techniques (BigQuery, Spanner, Snowflake, Redshift, etc.)
