What’s the best thing about working here?
The progression. I have been with the company for 15 years and managed to work my way up to Store Manager. The friendly feel of the company is great and all the stores work together with the support office.
Describe the culture
Friendly, everyone is approachable and each day is different. Everyone works together both in store and in the support office, it’s a great place to work with great people.
What do you get up to on a typical day/week?
I help to develop my team and keep the store running smoothly on a day-to-day basis. My role is to help provide great customer service and a great atmosphere for customers and their fur babies.
Tell us about the learning and development?
The training is in depth and learning is done at an easy pace. You don’t have to know about pets to start off with, you just have to be passionate.
What opportunities are there for career progression?
I have progressed from Assistant Manager to Store Manager over the years and there is still scope to move into the support centre or other field roles.
Tell us about the rewards and benefits?
One of the biggest rewards for me is helping to develop and progress colleagues and help further their careers. As a company we have a website called ‘Lifeworks’ where we are able to get discounts for other retailers.
How does Pets at Home give back to the community?
Stores are partnered with local charities which helps generates extra funding for them. We do informative workshops with customers to help educate them about pet care and the needs of their pets. We also work closely with Scouts, Beavers and Cubs to support their pet care badges.
